Its hard to believe that this sort of evil could ever exist. Maus was a great read but its still hard to grasp the reality of the Holocaust. But Maus made it easier for the read to understand better. The fact the Jews were the mice relates to the fact that they were treated much like we do our cattle. When the therapist was portrayed as a human with a  mask on stood out the most to me because you can see the direct relation to the story and what really happened. How do we ever let something like this happen? How evil do you need to be to think in this mannor?

Just like everything is crumbling around him you can feel the passion in this monk to stay meditating. Few words but just the right amount feeling in the panels. Mr. Natural is not bad of a read I can see where it could be a way to transition into the world of underground comics as some tend to get much more graphic in nature then Mr. Natural is. He in a hard character to understand at times you can feel that he is spiritual and other times a bit cynical. He seems to be different from most other comics where hes not all good or all bad its somewhat between each other.

This is a great scene from Will Eisner without any words you can feel everything that going on in this photo. You can feel the gloominess of the day the need to get inside out of the storm and the miserableness of being stuck out in the pouring rain. While reading this you do not even feel as if your reading a comic but rather reading a story, the visuals capture the moments perfectly. This was a really great read I really enjoyed the art style the illustrations went perfectly with the story to give you the sense of what is happening in the story.

I was not much of a read at all growing up. In fact I despised reading id rather sit on a video game and read that rather then sitting down and reading a book. Much of my comic book reading has been done online. And mostly related to the game ive been playing at the time. After read some on Carl Barks Donald Duck comics the art work and the style brings back old memories. I grew up with Donald Duck weather or not it was in comic form or cartoon form.  But now im starting to see that comic books are a great way to tell stories. Depending on how the transitions through the book and can really draw the read into the story they are telling.

I was never much of a comic fan when I was younger, yes like most children I would occasionally look over the Sunday comics while my dad was at the table reading the paper during breakfast, but that was about the extent of my comic reading as a child. As I grew older I began to enjoy comics more and more, mostly due to the art work in them, but still did not invest myself into them. To be quite honest the only comic I really invested myself in was “The Walking Dead” and that was only because I was so hooked on the TV series that I had to get more from it. After starting this class I have learned so much about comics that I truly had no idea even existed. It is truly a fascinating world some of these stories such as “Nemo” and specially “The Upside-Downs” really blew my mind how a whole story can be shown one way then finished off by just flipping the book over and reading the rest. It really just blew my mind how hard that must have been to come up with a story that made sense and had some sort of content in it and also making sense upside right and upside down.

“Understanding Comics” by Scott McCloud was a really interesting read. It helps give you the information your looking for without having to dig deep and it gives it to you in such an enthusiastic way. McCloud says that there are many different types of transitional panels; moment to moment, action to action, subject to subject, scene to scene, aspect to aspect and non sequitur. American comics are more prone to be action to action style where we sometimes get overwhelmed by so much stuff going on without much of a break to take it all in.

A great graphic novel I’ve been reading for a while now is “The Walking Dead” I have invested hours and hours into this read and it brings out so many emotions. In the scenes where there is no dialog you can really feel the emotion or tension without it being ruined by certain words that may be misinterpreted.
